and in another place (10/58-59), he said: "Thus, He, the Exalted, clarified that He hesitates because hesitation involves the conflict of two wills. He, the Exalted, loves what His servant loves and dislikes what he dislikes, and since the servant dislikes death, He dislikes it as He said: 'and I dislike his distress.' However, He, the Exalted, has decreed death, so He wills him to die, and this is termed hesitation. Then He clarified that it is inevitable for this to occur."

"Allāh did not send a prophet or a caliph except that he had two advisors: one that enjoins him to do good and forbids him from evil, and another that does not refrain from corrupting him. Whoever is protected from the evil advisor is indeed protected." It was recorded by al-Bukhārī in "al-Adab al-Mufrad" (256), al-Tirmidhī in "al-Sunan" (2/58-59) and "al-Shamāʾil al-Muḥammadiyyah" (no. 134), al-Ṭaḥāwī in "Mushkil al-Āthār" (1/195-196), and al-Ḥākim in "al-Mustadrak" (4/131), and from him by al-Bayhaqī in "Shuʿab al-Īmān" (2/17/2) through various chains from ʿAbd al-Malik ibn ʿUmayr from Abū Salamah ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān from Abū Hurayrah who said: The Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said to Abū al-Haytham: Do you have a servant? He said: No. He said: So when captives come to us, come to us. Then two captives were brought to the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) with no third among them. Abū al-Haytham came to him, and the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: Choose one of them. He said: O Messenger of Allāh, choose for me. The Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: "The consultant is entrusted. Take this one, for I saw him praying, and treat him well." His wife said: You will not fulfill what the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said about him unless you free him. He said: He is free. The Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said... and he mentioned it. The context is from al-Bukhārī, and the context in al-Tirmidhī and al-Ḥākim is more complete, and he said: "Authentic according to the criteria of the two Shaykhs." al-Dhahabī agreed with him. al-Tirmidhī said: "A good, authentic, and rare ḥadīth." I said: And his saying: "The consultant is entrusted."
