It was recorded by Aḥmad (1/438), al-Ḥākim (4/382-383), and al-Bayhaqī (8/331) through the route of Yaḥyá al-Jābir, who said: "I heard Abū Mājidah say: 'I was sitting with ʿAbd Allāh ibn Masʿūd (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu), and he said: I remember the first man whom the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) had his hand cut off. A thief was brought to him, and he ordered his hand to be cut off, and it was as if the face of the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) was saddened. They said: O Messenger of Allāh, it is as if you disliked his hand being cut off? He said: And what prevents me? Do not be... etc.'" Al-Ḥākim said: "The isnād is authentic." Al-Dhahabī remained silent about it, which is not commendable from him, as he mentioned Abū Mājidah in "al-Mīzān" and said: "Unknown, and al-Nasāʾī said: His ḥadīth is rejected, and al-Bukhārī said: Weak." However, the ḥadīth is ḥasan in my view, as most of it is established separately in other ḥadīths. The statement: "Do not be helpers of Satan against your brother," is recorded by al-Bukhārī from Abū Hurayrah. See "al-Mishkāt" (2621). And the statement: "It is not appropriate..." is supported by the ḥadīth of Ibn ʿAmr: "Forgive the prescribed punishments among yourselves..." which is recorded in "al-Mishkāt" (3568). And the ḥadīth of forgiveness is supported by the ḥadīth of ʿĀʾishah: "Say: O Allāh, You are Forgiving and love forgiveness..." It is in "al-Mishkāt" (2091). Al-Suyūṭī mentioned another supporting narration from Ibn ʿAdī on the authority of ʿAbd Allāh ibn Jaʿfar.

- "Indeed, Allāh ﷿ said: We have sent down wealth to establish prayer and give zakāh. If the son of Adam had a valley, he would love to have a second one, and if he had two valleys, he would love to have a third. Nothing fills the belly of the son of Adam except dust, and then Allāh accepts the repentance of whoever repents."
