It was recorded by Aḥmad (5/218-219) and al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Kabīr" (3300 and 3301) through the route of Hishām ibn Saʿd from Zayd ibn Aslam from ʿAṭāʾ ibn Yasār from Abū Wāqid al-Laythī who said: "We used to visit the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) when revelation descended upon him, and he would speak to us. One day he said to us..." and he mentioned it. I say: This isnād is good, and it meets the criteria of Muslim. There is some discussion about Hishām ibn Saʿd, but it does not harm [the narration], and he was followed by Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Mujbir from Zayd ibn Aslam with it. It was recorded by al-Ṭabarānī (3302). However, this Ibn Mujbir is abandoned as al-Nasāʾī and others said, so his follow-up is not to be rejoiced over. Rabīʿah ibn ʿUthmān contradicted them and said: from Zayd ibn Aslam from Abū Marwāḥ from Abū Wāqid al-Laythī with it. He mentioned Abū Marwāḥ instead of ʿAṭāʾ. It was recorded by al-Ṭabarānī (3303) and Ibn Mandah in "al-Maʿrifah" (2/264/1). Rabīʿah's condition is like that of Hishām, so if each of them preserved [the narration], then ʿAṭāʾ ibn Yasār has two shaykhs in this ḥadīth, and both are trustworthy. And Allāh knows best. The ḥadīth has many well-known supporting narrations, so it is a ṣaḥīḥ ḥadīth. Refer to "Fatḥ al-Bārī" (11/253-258 - printed by al-Khaṭīb).

- Verily, Allāh the Exalted said: Whoever shows enmity to a friend of Mine, I have declared war against him. My servant does not draw near to Me with anything more beloved to Me than what I have made obligatory upon him, and My servant continues to draw near to Me with supererogatory acts until I love him. When I love him, I am his hearing with which he hears, his sight with which he sees, his hand with which he strikes, and his foot with which he walks. If he asks Me, I will surely give to him, and if he seeks refuge in Me, I will surely grant him refuge. I do not hesitate concerning anything I do as I hesitate about seizing the soul of the believer; he dislikes death, and I dislike to displease him."
