In a narration by Aḥmad (3/456) and Ibn ʿAsākir (14/290/1) through the route of Shuʿayb from al-Zuhrī, he said: ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Kaʿb ibn Mālik narrated to me. that Kaʿb ibn Mālik, when Allāh revealed regarding poetry what He revealed, came to the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) and said: "Indeed, Allāh has revealed regarding poetry what you know, and what do you think about it?" The Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: "Indeed, the believer strives with his sword and his tongue." And this chain is also authentic according to their conditions. It appears that al-Zuhrī had two teachers in this regard: one is ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Kaʿb ibn Mālik as narrated by Maʿmar from him, and the other is ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Kaʿb ibn Mālik as in this narration by Shuʿayb from him. He was followed by Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh, the nephew of al-Zuhrī, from him with the wording: "Satirize with poetry...", and it has been mentioned under number (802).

- "Indeed, the believer is in all goodness, in every situation, even as his soul departs from between his sides, he praises Allāh." It was recorded by Aḥmad (1/273-274): Abū Aḥmad narrated to us, Sufyān narrated to us from ʿAṭāʾ ibn al-Sāʾib from ʿIkrimah from Ibn ʿAbbās who said: "The Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) took one of his daughters who was dying, embraced her, and placed her between his breasts, and she died while she was between his breasts. Umm Ayman cried out, and it was said: 'Do you cry in the presence of the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam)?' She said: 'Do I not see you crying, O Messenger of Allāh?' He said: 'I do not cry, it is only mercy. Indeed, the believer...'" I say: And this is an authentic chain, all its men are trustworthy, for although ʿAṭāʾ ibn al-Sāʾib had mixed up [his narrations], Sufyān — who is al-Thawrī — heard from him before the mixing, and perhaps for this reason he recorded
