and al-Ḥajjāj ibn Arṭāʾah is a known mudallis, and he narrated it with ʿanʿanah, and it was narrated from him by Nūḥ ibn Abī Maryam in a connected form, saying: from him, from Ṭalḥah ibn Muṣarrif, from Kurayb, from Ibn ʿAbbās, as a marfūʿ ḥadīth. It was recorded by Abū Nuʿaym in "al-Ḥilyah" (5/29). This is one of the delusions or fabrications of Nūḥ, for he is a liar. And his saying: "Indeed, Allāh is Generous and loves generosity." It is also narrated from Saʿd and others, and it is included in "Ḥijāb al-Marʾah al-Muslimah" (101).

- "I am only a conveyor, and Allāh guides, and a distributor, and Allāh gives. So whoever receives something from me with good desire and good guidance, then that is what will be blessed for him. And whoever receives something from me with bad desire and bad guidance, then that is the one who eats but is not satisfied." It was recorded by Aḥmad (4/101-102): Abū al-Mughīrah narrated to us, saying: Ṣafwān narrated to us, saying: Abū al-Zāhiriyyah narrated from Muʿāwiyah ibn Abī Sufyān as a marfūʿ ḥadīth. This isnād is authentic; all its narrators are trustworthy, the men of Muslim. ʿAbd al-Quddūs also followed him, reporting from Ṣafwān with it. It was recorded by al-Bukhārī in "al-Tārīkh" (4/1/10). Al-Suyūṭī attributed it to al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Kabīr" from Muʿāwiyah similarly, without the saying: "So whoever receives...." The commentator al-Munāwī said: "Al-Haythamī said he narrated it with two isnāds, one of which is ḥasan." I say: It was recorded by al-Bukhārī in "al-Tārīkh" from the path of Ṣafwān also and Faḍīl ibn Faḍālah from Abū Hazān ʿAṭiyyah ibn Rāfiʿ from Muʿāwiyah as a marfūʿ ḥadīth with the wording: "I am only a conveyor, and Allāh guides, and I am only a distributor, and Allāh gives."
