that his death was in the year (284) and he did not mention any criticism or endorsement of him, but he was followed by Ibrāhīm ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Junayd al-Khatlī and Ibrāhīm ibn ʿAbd al-Razzāq al-Ḍarīr, who said: Aḥmad ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Yūnus informed us of it. Ibn ʿAsākir reported it (2/226/1) from Abū Bakr Muḥammad ibn Jaʿfar ibn Muḥammad ibn Sahl al-Sāmirī from them. And this Abū Bakr is al-Kharāʾiṭī, the author of the book "Makārim al-Akhlāq wa-Maʿāliha," and he also reported it in it (p. 2-3) with this isnād. Al-Bayhaqī also reported it in "al-Asmāʾ" (p. 53) through another route from Ibn Yūnus. I said: Thus, it is a sound isnād, all its men are trustworthy and mentioned in "al-Tahdhīb" except for al-Kharāʾiṭī's two shaykhs, and they are also trustworthy (p. 55) from the route of Abū Muʿāwiyah al-Ḍarīr from al-Ḥajjāj ibn Arṭāh from Sulaymān ibn Saḥīm from Ṭalḥah ibn ʿUbayd Allāh ibn Kurayz who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: He mentioned it and added at the beginning: "Indeed, Allāh is Generous and loves generosity and loves the noble..." Al-Haytham ibn Kulayb also reported it in "al-Musnad" (7/1) from this perspective, as did Abū ʿUbaydah in "Faḍāʾil al-Qurʾān" (f. 11/2). And this is a weak mursal, ʿUbayd Allāh ibn Kurayz is a trustworthy tābiʿī, and it did not occur to al-Haytham as attributed to Kurayz, so he thought it was Ṭalḥah ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Taymī the Companion and included it in "his Musnad"! Al-Suyūṭī agreed with him in "al-Jāmiʿ" and did not mention that it is mursal contrary to his usual practice in such cases
