6 - As for the ḥadīth of Abū Hurayrah, it is narrated by Hishām ibn Ḥassān from Muḥammad from Abū Hurayrah. A man came to the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) and he was a handsome man. He said, "O Messenger of Allāh, I am a man who loves beauty, and I have been given what you see, to the extent that I do not like anyone to surpass me, either in the strap of my sandal or in the lace of my sandal. Is this arrogance?" He said, "No, but arrogance is rejecting the truth and belittling people." It was recorded by Abū Dāwūd (4092) and al-Ḥākim (4/181-182), who authenticated it, and al-Dhahabī agreed with him, and it is as they said. (Jalāz Sūṭī) The jalāz: anything that is wrapped around something, its singular is jalāzah. (ʿAlāqah Sūṭī) The ʿalāqah: what is used to hang a siphon or the like.

"Indeed, Allāh loves noble matters and their highest, and He dislikes their trivialities." It was narrated by al-Ṭabarānī, number (2894), Ibn ʿAdī (114/1), and al-Qaḍāʿī (89/2) from Khālid ibn Ilyās from Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUmar ibn ʿUthmān from Fāṭimah bint al-Ḥusayn from Ḥusayn ibn ʿAlī as a marfūʿ ḥadīth. It was also narrated by al-Khaṭīb al-Baghdādī in "Talkhīṣ al-Mutashābih fī al-Rasm" (8/1) from this chain. I said: Khālid ibn Ilyās is weak. However, it has a supporting evidence, as al-Mālīnī said in "al-Arbaʿīn al-Ṣūfiyyah" (10/1): Abū Bakr Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Ṣāliḥ informed us, Muḥammad ibn Zuhayr informed us, Muḥammad ibn al-Khaṭṭāb informed us, Aḥmad ibn Yūnus informed us, al-Fuḍayl ibn ʿIyāḍ informed us from Muḥammad ibn Thawr from Maʿmar from Abū Ḥāzim from Sahl ibn Saʿd as a marfūʿ ḥadīth. I said: Its narrators are trustworthy except for these Muḥammads who are in a single sequence, and I did not find a biography for them except for Muḥammad ibn al-Khaṭṭāb, whom al-Khaṭīb mentioned in "al-Tārīkh" (5/252) and narrated from Ibn Qāniʿ
