and al-Faḍl ibn Muḥammad al-Shaʿrānī, some have spoken against him without evidence, but he is trustworthy as al-Dhahabī mentioned in "al-Mīzān." He has been followed up, as it was narrated by al-Daylamī (1/2/226) through the route of al-Sulamī with his isnād from Abū al-Aḥwaṣ, who reported from Abū Salamah from Ḥammād ibn Salamah with it. The ḥadīth was also narrated by al-Bukhārī (2/239) through the route of Manṣūr from Abū Wāʾil with the other part of it, but he stopped it at Ibn Masʿūd.

"Indeed, Allāh is beautiful and loves beauty. Arrogance is to reject the truth and belittle people." It was narrated by Aḥmad (4/133-134 and 134) and al-Ḥarbī in "Gharīb al-Ḥadīth" (5/34/1-2), and similarly by Ibn ʿAsākir (14/271/2) and al-Khaṭṭābī in "al-Gharīb" (97/1) from Saʿīd ibn Marthad from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Ḥawshab from Thawbān ibn Shahr al-Ashʿarī who said: I heard Kurayb ibn Abrahah say: I heard Abū Rayḥānah say, and he mentioned it as marfūʿ: "Nothing of arrogance will enter Paradise." A man said: O Prophet of Allāh, I love to beautify myself: with the handle of my whip and the strap of my sandal? He (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: "That is not arrogance, indeed Allāh is beautiful..." I said: This isnād is weak; among them is someone unknown, Saʿīd, and it is said: Saʿd ibn Marthad. Ibn Abī Ḥātim mentioned him (2/1/63) saying: "He witnessed Ṣiffīn. He narrated from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Ḥawshab. Ḥarīz ibn ʿUthmān narrated from him." He did not mention any criticism or endorsement. But Abū Dāwūd said: "All of Ḥarīz's shaykhs are trustworthy," and Ibn Ḥibbān mentioned him in "al-Thiqāt," and similarly mentioned those above Saʿīd, the most famous of whom is Kurayb ibn Abrahah. al-ʿAjlī also declared him trustworthy.
