as for the statement of al-Haythamī in "Majmaʿ al-Zawāʾid" (2/303-304): "It was narrated by Aḥmad and al-Ṭabarānī in 'al-Kabīr' and 'al-Awsaṭ', all of them from the narration of Ismāʿīl ibn ʿAyyāsh from Rāshid al-Ṣanʿānī, and he is weak except in narrations from the people of al-Shām." there is an oversight in that this al-Ṣanʿānī is not attributed to "Ṣanʿāʾ al-Yaman" but rather to Ṣanʿāʾ of Damascus as mentioned in "al-Taqrīb", so he is from al-Shām, and Ismāʿīl's narrations from them are authentic, thus the ḥadīth is established, and all praise is due to Allāh.

"Indeed, a great rock is thrown from the edge of Hell, and it falls in it for seventy years without reaching its bottom." It was recorded by al-Tirmidhī (3/341) through the route of Hishām ibn Ḥassān from al-Ḥasan who said: ʿUtbah ibn Ghazwān said on our pulpit— the pulpit of al-Baṣrah— about the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam). He said: and he mentioned it. And he said: "We do not know of al-Ḥasan hearing from ʿUtbah ibn Ghazwān, as ʿUtbah ibn Ghazwān came to al-Baṣrah during the time of ʿUmar. Al-Ḥasan was born two years before the end of ʿUmar's caliphate." I say: The men of its isnād are trustworthy, except that it is disconnected, but it has been reported connected through the route of Khālid ibn ʿUmayrī al-ʿAdawī who said: "ʿUtbah ibn Ghazwān delivered a sermon to us, praised Allāh and extolled Him, then said: As for what follows... it has been mentioned to us that a stone is thrown from the edge of Hell, and it falls in it for seventy years without reaching its bottom." It was recorded by Muslim (8/215) and Aḥmad (4/174). I say: It is a strong corroboration for the ḥadīth of al-Ḥasan because of ʿUtbah's statement: "It has been mentioned to us" in the passive form
