"Indeed, the world is lush and sweet. Whoever takes it rightfully will be blessed in it, but there are many who unjustly indulge in the wealth of Allāh and His Messenger, and for them, there is nothing but the Fire on the Day they meet Allāh." This was narrated by al-Tirmidhī (3/277) and Aḥmad (6/364 and 378) through two chains from ʿUbayd Abū al-Walīd Sanūṭā, from Khawlah bint Qays, the wife of Ḥamzah ibn ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib, that the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) entered upon Ḥamzah and they discussed the world, whereupon the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said this. Al-Tirmidhī said: "This is a ḥasan ṣaḥīḥ ḥadīth." I say: This ʿUbayd was narrated from by two trustworthy narrators, and he was deemed reliable by al-ʿAjlī and Ibn Ḥibbān. He was followed by Nuʿmān ibn Abī ʿAyyāsh from Khawlah al-Anṣārīyah in a shortened form with the wording: "Indeed, there are men who unjustly indulge in the wealth of Allāh, and for them is the Fire on the Day of Resurrection." This was narrated by al-Bukhārī (6/165-166 - Fatḥ) and al-Ismāʿīlī added at the beginning: "The world is lush and sweet, and indeed, there are men..." I say: Aḥmad also narrated it (6/410) with this addition. It was narrated by al-Ḥākim (4/68) through the route of Abū ʿUtbah ibn al-Faraj, who reported from Zayd ibn Yaḥyá ibn ʿUbayd, who reported from al-Layth ibn Saʿd, from Saʿīd ibn Abī Saʿīd al-Maqburī, from Ḥamnah ﵂ that she heard the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) say it. I say: He and al-Dhahabī remained silent about it. Abū ʿUtbah's name is Aḥmad ibn al-Faraj, and he is weak. I fear he may have erred in his isnād, as it is with al-Tirmidhī and Aḥmad through two other routes from al-Layth, from Saʿīd al-Maqburī, from ʿUbayd, from Khawlah as mentioned before. And Allāh knows best.
