"Indeed, the Dajjāl will emerge from a land in the east, called (Khurasan), followed by people whose faces are like hammered shields." It was recorded by al-Tirmidhī (3/234), Ibn Mājah (2/506), al-Ḥākim (4/527), Aḥmad (1/4 and 7), and al-Ḍiyāʾ in "al-Mukhtārah" (33-37 in my verification) through the route of Abū al-Tayyāḥ from al-Mughīrah ibn Subayʿ from ʿAmr ibn Ḥurayth from Abū Bakr al-Ṣiddīq who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) told us: and he mentioned it. Al-Tirmidhī said: "A ḥasan gharīb ḥadīth." Al-Ḥākim said: "Ṣaḥīḥ al-isnād" and al-Dhahabī agreed with him. I say: It is as they said, its narrators are trustworthy, the narrators of the two Shaykhs, except for al-Mughīrah ibn Subayʿ, who is trustworthy. ʿAmr ibn Ḥurayth is a young Companion. Abū al-Tayyāḥ's name is Yazīd ibn Ḥumayd al-Ḍubʿī. (Note) This is the wording of the ḥadīth according to all those we mentioned among the compilers, and it was mentioned by al-Suyūṭī in "al-Ziyādah ʿalá al-Jāmiʿ al-Ṣaghīr" with the wording: ".... from the east from a city called...." And he said: "Narrated by Aḥmad and Ibn Mājah from Abū Bakr!" There is no basis for it with this wording according to them or anyone else we mentioned, except in a narration by al-Ḍiyāʾ with the wording: "The Dajjāl will emerge from a village called (Khurasan)." I say: It is anomalous to me with this wording as it contradicts all who narrated it with the wording of the translation: "A land in the east called (Khurasan)." And Allāh knows best.
