that I heard my father say: "This is a mistake; it is actually al-Shaʿbī from ʿĀmir ibn Shahr from the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam)." Shurayk also disagreed and said: "from Ismāʿīl from ʿAṭāʾ from ʿĀmir ibn Shahr." It was recorded by Aḥmad (4/260). I said: Shurayk replaced ʿAṭāʾ with al-Shaʿbī, which is an error by Shurayk ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Qāḍī, as he had poor memory. "The son of Adam, when he feels cold, says: 'Hass,' and when he feels heat, says: 'Hass.'" It was recorded by Aḥmad (6/410) through the route of Yaḥnas from Khawlah bint Qays ibn [Qahd] al-Anṣārīyah from Banū al-Najjār, who said: "The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) came to us one day... I presented to him a pot containing bread or porridge, and the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) placed his hand in the pot to eat, and his fingers were burned. He said: 'Hass,' then he said:" and mentioned it. I said: This isnād is authentic; all its men are trustworthy, the men of Muslim. (Hass) is a word said at sudden pain; it is said: he struck and did not say: 'Hass,' and it may be inflected.
