saw the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) race his horse and win, and he said, "It is like a sea!" I also saw him one day striking with his sword in the path of Allāh, and he mentioned it, attributing himself to his grandmothers from Banū Sulaym. I said: And this isnād has trustworthy men except for Isḥāq ibn Zayd, who is al-Khaṭṭābī al-Ḥarrānī. Ibn Abī Ḥātim mentioned him (1/1/220) narrating from a group and said, "My father heard from him in Ḥarrān." He did not mention any criticism or commendation about him. In summary, the ḥadīth through these paths is ḥasan at the least.

"I am the first to grasp the ring of the gate of Paradise and shake it." It was recorded by al-Tirmidhī (4/140) and al-Dārimī (1/27) through the route of Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah from Ibn Judʿān from Anas as marfūʿ. Al-Tirmidhī said: "It is a ḥasan ḥadīth." Ḥammād ibn Salamah disagreed, saying: from ʿAlī ibn Zayd from Abū Naḍrah who said: "Ibn ʿAbbās delivered a sermon to us on the pulpit of Basra and said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said...." I said: He mentioned the ḥadīth of intercession in full, and in it: "Then I come to the gate of Paradise, and I grasp the ring of the gate of Paradise, and I knock on the door..." It was recorded by Aḥmad (1/281-282 and 295-296). ʿAlī ibn Zayd is Ibn Judʿān and he is weak. And for this portion of his ḥadīth, there is corroboration from another route from Zamʿah from Salamah from Ibn ʿAbbās as marfūʿ with the wording: "...and I am the first to move the rings of Paradise without boasting...."
