"I am the son of the ʿAwātik." It was narrated by al-Bayhaqī in "Dalāʾil al-Nubuwwah" (Vol. 1, Chapter on the Prophecies of the Prophet ﷺ through the route of Muḥammad ibn al-Ṣabbāḥ who said: Hushaym narrated to us from Yaḥyá ibn Saʿīd from ʿAmr ibn Saʿīd ibn al-ʿĀṣ who said: Sīyābah informed us: that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said on the day of Ḥunayn: and he mentioned it. And he was followed by ʿUmar ibn ʿAwf al-Wāsiṭī who narrated to us that Hushaym informed us that Yaḥyá ibn Saʿīd narrated it. It was extracted by al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr" (6724) and al-Haythamī said in "Majmaʿ al-Zawāʾid" (8/219): "And its narrators are the narrators of the authentic [collections]." And it has been said: from Hushaym from Yaḥyá ibn Saʿīd from ʿAmr ibn Saʿīd ibn al-ʿĀṣ. Then it was narrated through the route of Abū ʿAwānah from Qatādah with it as a marfūʿ [ḥadīth]. Qutaybah ibn Saʿīd said: "The Prophet ﷺ had three grandmothers from the tribe of Sulaym named ʿĀtikah, so when he boasted, he would say: I am the son of the ʿAwātik." Al-Bayhaqī said: It has reached me that one of them was the mother of ʿAdnān, another was the mother of Hāshim, and the third was his grandmother from the side of Zuhrah." And it was narrated by Ibn Wahb in "al-Jāmiʿ" (1) from ʿUqayl from Ibn Shihāb as marfūʿ and added: "from Sulaym."
