"take the milk and butter of cows, and beware of their meat, for their milk and butter are medicine and healing, and their meat is disease." It was recorded by al-Ḥākim, who was lenient in authenticating it, as I have detailed along with its other chains of transmission in some responses. The Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) offered cows as a sacrifice on behalf of his wives, perhaps to indicate permissibility, or due to the unavailability of other options, as he would not seek closeness to Allāh with disease. Al-Ḥalīmī stated, as I have previously mentioned in "ʿalaykum," that the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said this about cows due to the dryness of the Ḥijāz and the dryness of cow meat from it, while its milk and butter are moist, and he approved of this interpretation. And Allāh knows best." I said: The ḥadīth of Ibn Masʿūd is a strong support for the ḥadīth of the chapter, and its documentation will appear under number (1949). The discussion on the chains related to cow milk has passed under number (518) and will appear under ḥadīth (1650).

"Raise up from the valley of Muḥassir, and use pebbles like those of al-Khaḍaf." It was recorded by Aḥmad (1/219), al-Ṭaḥāwī in "Mushkil al-Āthār" (2/72), and al-Bayhaqī (5/115) through the chain of Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah from Ziyād ibn Saʿd from Abū al-Zubayr from Abū Maʿbad from Ibn ʿAbbās that the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: and he mentioned it. It was also recorded by Ibn Khuzaymah in his "Ṣaḥīḥ" (1/278/1) and al-Ḥākim (1/462), and from him al-Bayhaqī, through the chain of Muḥammad ibn Kathīr who narrated from Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah with it. However, he said: "Raise up from the valley of ʿUranah, and raise up from the valley of Muḥassir." He did not mention the second part of it. He said: "Authentic according to the conditions of Muslim," and it is as he said. Then he mentioned a supporting narration for it from another chain about Ibn ʿAbbās with a similar wording. It also has another supporting narration from the ḥadīth of Jubayr ibn Muṭʿim, authenticated by Ibn Ḥibbān, and I have referred to it in "Takhrīj al-Mishkāt" (2596)
