also: not known. He said: Naʿīm ibn Ḍamḍam was weakened by some. End quote. I read in the handwriting of our Shaykh (meaning al-Ḥāfiẓ Ibn Ḥajar) that I did not find any authentication or criticism, except for this statement by al-Dhahabī." From this perspective, al-Bukhārī included it in "al-Tārīkh" (3/2/416) and it is in "Zawāʾid al-Bazzār" (306). Thus, the ḥadīth with this witness and others of similar meaning is ḥasan, if Allāh wills.

"The best of people (in another narration: the best of people) is a man who strives in the path of Allāh with his wealth and his self, then a believer in a mountain pass who worships Allāh his Lord and leaves people from his harm." It was narrated by al-Bukhārī (6/4 and 11/277-278), Muslim (6/39), Abū Dāwūd (1/389), al-Nasāʾī (2/55), al-Tirmidhī (3/16 - Tuhfah), Ibn Mājah (2/475), al-Ḥākim (2/71), and Aḥmad (3/16, 37, 56, 88) through various chains from al-Zuhrī, from ʿAṭāʾ ibn Yazīd al-Laythī, from Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī: "A man came to the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) and said: Who are the best of people? He said: A man..." the ḥadīth. The second narration is by Muslim and Aḥmad. Al-Ḥākim said: "Authentic according to the criteria of the two Shaykhs," but they did not include it. I said: In his version, there is Sulaymān ibn Kathīr from al-Zuhrī, and although he is trustworthy, they have criticized his narration from al-Zuhrī specifically, and he differed from the group in the wording of the ḥadīth, saying: "He was asked which of the believers has the most complete faith." This is how it was narrated from him by Abū Dāwūd and al-Ḥākim. However, Aḥmad narrated it from his route with the wording of the group, which is correct.
