- "I was given these verses from the end of al-Baqarah from a treasure beneath the Throne, which no prophet before me was given (nor will anyone after me be given)." Narrated by Aḥmad (5/883), Ibn Naṣr in "Qiyām al-Layl" (p. 65), al-Sirāj in "Musnad" (3/47/1), and al-Bayhaqī (1/213) from Abū Mālik al-Ashjaʿī from Ribʿī ibn Ḥirāsh from Ḥudhayfah, raised [to the Prophet]. I say: This isnād is authentic according to the criteria of Muslim, and al-Ḥākim attributed it to him in "al-Mustadrak" (1/563) but did not provide its wording, only referring to it by saying at the end of Ḥudhayfah's ḥadīth, he narrated it with this isnād from him, raised with the wording: "We were favored over the people with three things..." He mentioned them and then said after it: "And mentioned another trait." I say: And this is definitely it, as Aḥmad, al-Sirāj, and al-Bayhaqī mentioned it after Muslim's wording with the wording mentioned above. "And I was given these verses...." The ḥadīth was also narrated by Ibn Khuzaymah in his "Ṣaḥīḥ" as in "Hidāyat al-Insān" by Yūsuf ibn ʿAbd al-Hādī (Q 22/1). Ribʿī ibn Ḥirāsh has another isnād in this ḥadīth narrated by Manṣūr from Ribʿī from Khurashah ibn al-Ḥurr from al-Maʿrūr ibn Suwayd from Abū Dharr, raised [to the Prophet]. And in another narration, it adds: and it means the two verses from the end of Sūrah al-Baqarah." Narrated by Aḥmad (5/151-180). I say: And its isnād is also authentic according to the criteria of Muslim. And narrated by al-Ḥākim (1/562) through the route of ʿAbd Allāh ibn Ṣāliḥ al-Miṣrī, who informed me from Muʿāwiyah ibn Ṣāliḥ from Abū al-Zāhiriyyah from Jubayr ibn Nufayr from Abū Dharr, and he said: "Authentic according to the criteria of al-Bukhārī." Al-Dhahabī refuted it by saying: "He said so, but Muʿāwiyah was not relied upon by (B), and Ibn Wahb narrated it from Muʿāwiyah as mursal."
