- "Muʿādh ibn Jabal is the most knowledgeable of people regarding what is lawful and unlawful with Allāh." Narrated by Abū Nuʿaym in "al-Ḥilyah" (1/228) and from him by Ibn ʿAsākir (16/308/1) from Salām ibn Sulaymān, who reported from Zayd al-ʿAmī, from Abū al-Ṣiddīq al-Nājī, from Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī as a marfūʿ ḥadīth. I say: This is fabricated; its flaw is Salām, who is al-Ṭawīl, and he is a liar, as has been mentioned repeatedly. Zayd al-ʿAmī is weak. Then Ibn ʿAsākir narrated from the path of Muḥammad ibn ʿUthmān ibn Abī Shaybah: al-Ḥasan ibn Suhayl informed us, Abū Usāmah informed us, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Zayd ibn Jābir, from al-Zuhrī as a marfūʿ ḥadīth with the wording: "The most knowledgeable of it regarding what is lawful and unlawful is Muʿādh ibn Jabal." This, despite being mursal, includes al-Ḥasan ibn Sahl, whom I do not know. However, the ḥadīth has a strong witness from the ḥadīth of Anas ibn Mālik, whose extraction has been mentioned (1224), and it is from the narration of Abū Qilābah from him. Abū Nuʿaym has also recorded it from this perspective with the wording: "The most knowledgeable of my ummah regarding what is lawful and unlawful is Muʿādh ibn Jabal." Then he narrated it from the path of Suwayd ibn Saʿīd: ʿUmar ibn ʿUbayd narrated to us from ʿImrān, from al-Ḥasan and Abān, from Anas as a marfūʿ ḥadīth with it. This isnād is weak. Then I saw the ḥadīth with al-ʿUqaylī in "al-Ḍuʿafāʾ" (pp. 170-171) from the aforementioned perspective, more complete than it, with the wording: "The most merciful of this ummah towards it is Abū Bakr, and the strongest of them in the religion of Allāh is ʿUmar, and the most knowledgeable of them..
