and the ḥadīth of Dihyah, which was previously mentioned as a suspended narration in al-Bayhaqī's words, was cited by al-Suyūṭī in "al-Jāmiʿ al-Kabīr" (1/88/2) from the narration of Abū Nuʿaym from him, elevated with the wording: "Go to your companion and inform him that my Lord has killed his lord tonight, meaning Kisra." And the story of the tearing of the letter is found in al-Bukhārī and others, and I have extracted it in "al-Taʿlīq ʿalá Fiqh al-Sīrah" (p. 389).

- "Take this water, and when you reach your land, break your church and sprinkle its place with this water, and establish a mosque in its place." It was narrated by Ibn Ḥibbān (304), as well as al-Nasāʾī (1/114), Aḥmad (4/23), Ibn Saʿd (5/552), and Abū Nuʿaym in "Dalāʾil al-Nubuwwah" (p. 22-23) through the chain of ʿAbd Allāh ibn Badr from Qays ibn Ṭalq from his father, who said: "We went out as a delegation of six to the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), five from Banū Ḥanīfah and a man from Banū Ḍubayʿah ibn Rabīʿah, until we reached the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), pledged allegiance to him, prayed with him, and informed him that in our land there is a church of ours. We requested some of his leftover purification water, so he called for water, performed ablution with it, rinsed his mouth, then poured it for us into a water skin and said: (He mentioned it). We said: O Messenger of Allāh! The land is far, and the water will dry up. He said: Add water to it, for it will only increase it in goodness. So we went out, and we quarreled over who would carry the water skin. The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) made it a rotation among us, each man a day and a night. We went out with it until we reached our land, and we did what we were commanded. The monk of the people was a man from Ṭayyʾ, and we called for prayer. The monk said: A call of truth, then he fled and was not seen again." I say: This is a sound chain of narration, all its men are trustworthy.
