to this man who is in the Ḥijāz so that they may bring me news of him. So Bādhān sent his chamberlain and another man, and he wrote a letter with them. They arrived in Medina and delivered Bādhān's letter to the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam). The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) smiled and invited them to Islam while they were trembling with fear. He said, "Return to me today and come to me tomorrow, and I will inform you of what I desire." They came to him the next day, and he said to them... and he mentioned it. And Muḥammad ibn ʿUmar al-Aslamī, who is al-Wāqidī, is abandoned [as a narrator]. However, the ḥadīth of the translation is established as it is reported through various chains. Ibn Jarīr al-Ṭabarī mentioned it in "al-Tārīkh" (2, 654) from Yazīd ibn Abī Ḥabīb in a mursal form. Al-Ḥāfiẓ Ibn Kathīr mentioned in "al-Bidāyah" (4/270) that al-Bayhaqī narrated (and perhaps he means in "al-Dalāʾil") from the ḥadīth of Ḥammād ibn Salamah from Ḥumayd from al-Ḥasan from Abū Bakrah. "that a man from the people of Persia came to the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) and the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said, 'Indeed, my Lord has killed your lord tonight.'" Al-Bayhaqī said: And it is narrated in the ḥadīth of Dihyah ibn Khalīfah that when he returned from Caesar, he found at the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) the messengers of Kisrá. This was because Kisrá sent a threat to the ruler of Ṣanʿāʾ, saying to him, "Will you not suffice me regarding the matter of a man who has appeared in your land calling me to his religion? You must deal with him, or I will deal with you." So he sent to him and said to his messengers, "Inform him that my Lord has killed his lord tonight." And they found it as he had said. He said: And Dāwūd ibn Abī Hind narrated from ʿĀmir al-Shaʿbī something similar. All of this was mentioned by al-Ḥāfiẓ Ibn Kathīr, and despite his meticulousness, he missed that the ḥadīth of Abū Bakrah was also recorded by Imām Aḥmad (5/43), narrated by Aswad ibn ʿĀmir, narrated by Ḥammād ibn Salamah with it. And its isnād is according to the conditions of Muslim, and there is no defect in it except what is feared from the ʿanʿanah of al-Ḥasan al-Baṣrī due to tadlīs. However, he clearly stated the transmission in another narration with Aḥmad (5/51), so the ḥadīth is authentic, and all praise is due to Allāh. And perhaps because of the witnesses and chains we mentioned for the ḥadīth, al-Ḥāfiẓ was silent about it in "Fatḥ al-Bārī" (8/96)
إلى هذا الرجل الذي بالحجاز فليأتياني بخبره، فبعث باذان قهرمان ورجلا آخر وكتب معهما كتابا، فقدما المدينة، فدفعا كتاب باذان إلى النبي ﷺ، فتبسم رسول الله ﷺ ودعاهما إلى الإسلام وفرائصهما ترعد، وقال: ارجعا عني يومكما هذا حتى تأتياني الغد فأخبركما بما أريد، فجاءاه من الغد فقال لهما.... فذكره. ومحمد بن عمر الأسلمي وهو الواقدي متروك. لكن حديث الترجمة ثابت لوروده من طرق، فأخبرها ابن جرير الطبري في "التاريخ" (٢، ٦٥٤) عن يزيد بن أبي حبيب مرسلا. وذكر الحافظ ابن كثير في "البداية" (٤ / ٢٧٠) أن البيهقي روى (ولعله يعني في "الدلائل") من حديث حماد بن سلمة عن حميد عن الحسن عن أبي بكرة. "أن رجلا من أهل فارس أتى رسول الله ﷺ فقال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم "إن ربي قد قتل الليلة ربك". قال البيهقي: وروى في حديث دحية بن خليفة أنه لما رجع من عند قيصر وجد عند رسول الله ﷺ رسل كسرى، وذلك أن كسرى بعث يتوعد صاحب صنعاء ويقول له ألا تكفيني أمر رجل قد ظهر بأرضك يدعوني إلى دينه، لتكفنيه أو لأفعلن بك. فبعث إليه قال لرسله: أخبروه أن ربي قد قتل ربه الليلة. فوجدوه كما قال. قال: وروى داود بن أبي هند عن عامر الشعبي نحو هذا. وهذا كله ذكره الحافظ ابن كثير، وقد فاته مع حفظه أن حديث أبي بكرة أخرجه الإمام أحمد (٥ / ٤٣) حدثنا أسود بن عامر حدثنا حماد بن سلمة به. وإسناده على شرط مسلم ولا علة فيه سوى ما يخشى من عنعنة الحسن البصري من التدليس ولكنه قد صرح بالتحديث في رواية أخرى عند أحمد (٥ / ٥١) فصح الحديث والحمد لله تعالى. ولعله لما ذكرنا للحديث من الشواهد والطرق سكت عليه الحافظ في "فتح الباري" (٨ / ٩٦).
