and there is weakness due to his memory. The rest of its narrators are trustworthy except for ʿAmr ibn Kaʿb, whom I do not know. Kaʿb ibn Mālik had several children who narrated from him, but the ḥāfiẓ did not mention him among them in "al-Tahdhīb." Yes, they mentioned among the teachers of Ibn Khuṣayfah ʿAmr ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Kaʿb ibn Mālik, and Ibn Abī Ḥātim mentioned in his biography (3/1/243) that this ʿAmr heard from Nāfiʿ ibn Jubayr ibn Muṭʿim, and Yazīd ibn Khuṣayfah heard from him. He did not mention any criticism or praise about him. Therefore, his statement in this isnād "from his father" means ʿAbd Allāh ibn Kaʿb ibn Mālik, and if so, the ḥadīth is mursal because this ʿAbd Allāh is a tābiʿī. It is problematic that Imām Aḥmad included it in the Musnad of Kaʿb ibn Mālik, as if he followed the apparent isnād, and al-Haythamī and others followed him, saying in "Majmaʿ al-Zawāʾid" (5/114): from Kaʿb ibn Mālik... narrated by Aḥmad and al-Ṭabarānī, and in it is Abū Maʿshar Najīḥ, who has been deemed reliable, although many have weakened him, and his reliability is weak, but the rest of its men are trustworthy. ʿAmr was not named in this isnād of al-Kharāʾiṭī, and it only appeared as "from the son of Kaʿb ibn Mālik." If it were not for Aḥmad's narration, it could be said that it is ʿAbd Allāh or ʿUbayd Allāh or Muḥammad or Maʿbad or ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, as they are all his sons and have narrated from him, and Allāh knows best. The ḥadīth is authentic, with a corroborating narration from ʿUthmān ibn Abī al-ʿĀṣ al-Thaqafī, which is more complete. It was recorded by Muslim and al-Kharāʾiṭī (p. 94) and others, and it is included in "Sharḥ al-ʿAqīdah al-Ṭaḥāwiyyah" (p. 68). After writing the above, it became clear to me that Abū Maʿshar made a mistake in his isnād. Mālik said in "al-Muwaṭṭaʾ" (2/942) from Yazīd ibn Khuṣayfah that ʿAmr ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Kaʿb al-Sulamī informed him that Nāfiʿ ibn Jubayr informed him about ʿUthmān ibn Abī al-ʿĀṣ, who came to the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam). ʿUthmān said: I had an ailment that nearly destroyed me, so the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: Wipe it with your right hand seven times and say..
