It was recorded by Aḥmad (2/263). Wahīb followed him, saying: Suhayl narrated it, except that he said: "the People of the Book." It was recorded by al-Bukhārī in "al-Adab al-Mufrad" (1103). ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn Muḥammad al-Darāwardī also followed Suhayl in narrating it, with the wording: "Do not initiate greetings with the Jews or the Christians, and if you meet one of them on the road, force him to the narrowest part." It was recorded by Muslim and al-Tirmidhī (3/388) who said: "It is a ḥasan ṣaḥīḥ ḥadīth." I said: This variation in wording seems to me—Allāh knows best—to be from Suhayl himself, as he had some weakness in his memory. And Allāh knows best.

- "When a group of men pass by people and one man from those passing greets those sitting, and one from those sitting returns the greeting, it suffices for both groups." It was recorded by Abū Nuʿaym in "al-Ḥilyah" (8/251) from Muḥammad ibn al-Musayyib who said: ʿAbd Allāh ibn Khubayq narrated to us: Yūsuf ibn Asbāṭ narrated from ʿAbbād al-Baṣrī from Zayd ibn Aslam from ʿAṭāʾ ibn Yasār from Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said it and mentioned it, saying: "It is rare from the ḥadīth of Zayd and ʿAbbād, we did not write it except from the ḥadīth of Yūsuf." I said: There is weakness in it; al-Dhahabī mentioned it in "al-Ḍuʿafāʾ" and said: "Yaḥyá considered him reliable, and Abū Ḥātim said: He is not used as proof." ʿAbbād al-Baṣrī is a collective name and it is not clear to me who he is. The rest of the narrators are reliable except for Muḥammad ibn al-Musayyib; al-Khaṭīb mentioned him in "al-Tārīkh" (3/297) without mentioning any criticism or praise. ʿAbbād was contradicted in his isnād; it was recorded by Ibn al-Sunnī in "ʿAmal al-Yawm wa-al-Laylah" (230) through the route of Abū Mālik, the companion of al-Baṣrī, who said: Ḥafṣ ibn ʿAmr ibn Razīq narrated to us
