I said: This isnād [chain of narration] is acceptable as supporting evidence. Al-Walīd ibn Muslim also followed it, informing us from Ibn Lahīʿah. It was recorded by Abū al-Ḥusayn al-Kalābī in "The Copy of Abū al-ʿAbbās Ṭāhir ibn Muḥammad." Its narrators are trustworthy, the narrators of Muslim, except for Ibn Lahīʿah, who had poor memory. As for al-Haythamī, he said in "al-Majmaʿ" (3/153): "It was narrated by Aḥmad, and its isnād is good"! Isḥāq narrated from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Maʿqal from Bilāl who said: "I came to the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) to inform him of the dawn prayer, and he intended to fast. He called for a vessel and drank, then handed it to me, and I drank, then we went out to the prayer." It was recorded by Ibn Jarīr (3018 and 3019) and Aḥmad (6/12), and its narrators are trustworthy, the narrators of the two Shaykhs [al-Bukhārī and Muslim], so it is a sound isnād except that Abū Isḥāq, who is al-Sabīʿī, had mixed up [his narrations] and was known for tadlīs [concealing defects in the chain]. However, it is strengthened by the narration of Jaʿfar ibn Burqān from Shaddād, the freed slave of ʿIyāḍ ibn ʿĀmir, from Bilāl with a similar account. It was recorded by Aḥmad (6/13). Muṭīʿ ibn Rāshid narrated: Tūbah al-ʿAnbarī told me that he heard Anas ibn Mālik say: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: "Look for whoever is in the mosque and invite them." So I entered the mosque, and there were Abū Bakr and ʿUmar, so I invited them. I brought something and placed it before him, and he ate, and they ate, then they went out, and the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) led them in the dawn prayer." It was recorded by al-Bazzār (no. 993) in "Kashf al-Astār" and he said: "We do not know of Tūbah narrating from Anas except this and another, and none narrated them from him except Muṭīʿ." Al-Ḥāfiẓ Ibn Ḥajar said in "Zawāʾid" (p. 106): "Its isnād is good." I said: Al-Haythamī also said the same in "al-Majmaʿ" (3/152).
