"ʿAlqamah ibn ʿAlāthah was with the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), when Bilāl came to inform him of the prayer. The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: 'Wait a little, Bilāl! ʿAlqamah is having his pre-dawn meal, and he is eating a head.' " It was recorded by al-Ṭayālisī (no. 885 - his arrangement) and al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Kabīr" as in "al-Majmaʿ" (3/153), and he said: "Qays ibn al-Rabīʿ was deemed trustworthy by Shuʿbah and Sufyān al-Thawrī, but there is some discussion about him." I say: He is considered good in ḥadīth for supporting evidence because he is truthful in himself, but there is concern about his poor memory, so if he narrates what agrees with the trustworthy narrators, his ḥadīth is considered. Among the reports on this matter is what Shabīb from Gharqadah al-Bāriqī narrated from Ḥibbān ibn al-Ḥārith, who said: "We had our pre-dawn meal with ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu), and when we finished the meal, he ordered the caller to establish the prayer." It was recorded by al-Ṭaḥāwī in "Sharḥ al-Maʿānī" (1/106) and al-Mukhliṣ in "al-Fawāʾid al-Muntaqāh" (8/11/1). Its narrators are trustworthy except for Ḥibbān, who was mentioned by Ibn Abī Ḥātim (1/2/269) with this narration without any criticism or endorsement, while Ibn Ḥibbān included him in "al-Thiqāt" (1/27).
- "When two people are conversing privately, do not sit with them until you have sought their permission." It was recorded by Aḥmad (2/114), narrated by Sarīj, narrated by ʿAbd Allāh from Saʿīd al-Maqburī, who said: "I sat with Ibn ʿUmar while a man was speaking to him, and I joined them. He struck my chest with his hand and said: 'Do you not know that the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said' and he mentioned it." I say: This isnād is acceptable in follow-ups and supporting evidence. Its narrators are trustworthy, the narrators of Muslim, except for ʿAbd Allāh, who is Ibn ʿUmar al-ʿUmrī al-Mukabbir. Al-Dhahabī said: "Truthful but has some issues in his memory." Al-Ḥāfiẓ said: "Weak, devout."
