and the ḥadīth was attributed in "al-Jāmiʿ" to al-Khaṭīb alone! Its origin is found in al-Bukhārī (4/199) and Muslim (2/92) through the route of Manṣūr from Abū Wāʾil, similar to the narration of al-Ashʿath ibn Sulaym from his father, except that it mentions that the ones who entered upon ʿĀʾishah were two old women, and it includes: "The Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: 'They have spoken the truth, they are being punished with a punishment that all the animals can hear.'" It has a corroborating narration recorded by al-Ṭabarānī (3/78/2): Muḥammad ibn ʿUthmān ibn Abī Shaybah narrated to us, Yaʿlá ibn al-Minhāl al-Sakūnī informed us, Isḥāq ibn Manṣūr informed us, Abū Bakr ibn ʿAyyāsh from al-Aʿmash from Abū Wāʾil from ʿAbd Allāh in a marfūʿ form with the wording: "The dead are indeed punished in their graves to the extent that the animals can hear their voices." This isnād is acceptable for follow-ups, and all its men are known except for al-Sakūnī, whom Ibn Abī Ḥātim mentioned through another narrator about him without any criticism or commendation. Then I saw it in "Akhbār Iṣbahān" (1/198) through the route of Muḥammad ibn Shīrāz who narrated to us Yaʿlá ibn al-Minhāl al-Sakūnī with it. Al-Mundhirī said (4/182): "Al-Ṭabarānī narrated it in 'al-Kabīr' with a good isnād."

"Indeed, Allāh is Generous and loves generosity and noble character, and He despises its opposite." It was recorded by Abū al-Shaykh in "Aḥādīth" (12/1), al-Ḥākim (1/48), Abū Nuʿaym in "al-Ḥilyah" (3/255 and 8/133), and al-Salafī in "Muʿjam al-Safar" (18/1) through the route of Muḥammad ibn Thawr al-Ṣanʿānī from Maʿmar from Abū Ḥāzim from Sahl ibn Saʿd who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: and he mentioned it. Al-Ḥākim said: "Its isnād is authentic," and it is as he said, for he was followed by Ḥajjāj ibn Sulaymān ibn al-Qamarī who narrated to us Abū Ghassān from Abū Ḥāzim with it. It was recorded by al-Ḥākim and he also authenticated it and said:
