"The punishment of the grave is true." It was recorded by Aḥmad (6/174): Muḥammad ibn Jaʿfar narrated to us, Shuʿbah narrated to us from al-Ashʿath ibn Sulaym from his father from Masrūq from ʿĀʾishah: A Jewish woman entered upon her and mentioned the punishment of the grave, and she said to her: "May Allāh protect you from the punishment of the grave." So ʿĀʾishah asked the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) about the punishment of the grave, and he said: "Yes, the punishment of the grave is true." ʿĀʾishah said: "I did not see the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) perform a prayer afterward except that he sought refuge from the punishment of the grave." I say: This isnād is authentic according to the criteria of al-Bukhārī and Muslim, and it was also recorded by al-Bukhārī (1/345) through another route from Shuʿbah with it. Hāshim ibn al-Qāsim also followed it, Shuʿbah narrated to us with it, elevated and concise without the story. It was recorded by al-Khaṭīb in "al-Tārīkh" (5/64). And Hāshim ibn al-Qāsim has another isnād for it, as Aḥmad said (6/81): Hāshim narrated to us, he said: Isḥāq ibn Saʿīd narrated to us, he said: Saʿīd narrated to us from ʿĀʾishah: A Jewish woman used to serve her, and ʿĀʾishah would not do anything good for her except that the Jewish woman would say: "May Allāh protect you from the punishment of the grave..." The ḥadīth is similar but more complete, and it includes the translation. I say: This isnād is also authentic according to their criteria. And Saʿīd is the son of ʿAmr ibn Saʿīd ibn al-ʿĀṣ al-Umawī al-Kūfī, the father of Isḥāq who narrated from him. And there is another route from her narrated by ʿĀṣim ibn Bahdalah from Abū Wāʾil from Masrūq from ʿĀʾishah (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhā) that she said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: "The punishment of the grave is true." She said: I asked: "Did no one hear it?" He said: "Neither the jinn nor humans hear it, but others hear it, or he said: the creatures hear it." It was recorded by Abū al-Shaykh in "His Ḥadīths" (Q 7/1). I say: This isnād is good
" عذاب القبر حق ". أخرجه أحمد (٦ / ١٧٤) : حدثنا محمد بن جعفر حدثنا شعبة عن الأشعث ابن سليم عن أبيه عن مسروق عن عائشة: أن يهودية دخلت عليها، فذكرت عذاب القبر، فقالت لها: أعاذك الله من عذاب القبر، فسألت عائشة رسول الله ﷺ عن عذاب القبر؟ فقال: " نعم عذاب القبر حق ". قالت عائشة: " فما رأيت رسول الله ﷺ يصلي صلاة بعد إلا تعوذ من عذاب القبر ". قلت: وهذا إسناد صحيح على شرط الشيخين، وقد أخرجه البخاري (١ / ٣٤٥) من طريق أخرى عن شعبة به. وتابعه هاشم بن القاسم حدثنا شعبة به مرفوعا مختصرا دون القصة. أخرجه الخطيب في " التاريخ " (٥ / ٦٤) . ولهاشم بن القاسم فيه إسناد آخر، فقال أحمد (٦ / ٨١) : حدثنا هاشم قال: حدثنا إسحاق بن سعيد قال: حدثنا سعيد عن عائشة: أن يهودية كانت تخدمها، فلا تصنع عائشة إليها شيئا من المعروف إلا قالت لها اليهودية: " وقاك الله عذاب القبر ... " الحديث نحوه أتم منه، وفيه الترجمة. قلت: وهذا إسناد صحيح على شرطهما أيضا. وسعيد هو ابن عمرو ابن سعيد بن العاص الأموي الكوفي والد إسحاق الراوي عنه. وله طريق أخرى عنها يرويه عاصم ابن بهدلة عن أبي وائل عن مسروق عن عائشة ﵂ أنها قالت: قال رسول الله ﷺ: " عذاب القبر حق. قالت: قلت: فلم يسمعه أحد؟ قال: لا يسمعه الجن أو الإنس، ويسمعه غيرهم، أو قال: يسمعه الهوام ". أخرجه أبو الشيخ في " أحاديثه " (ق ٧ / ١) . قلت: وهذا إسناد حسن.
