and there is another chain for the ḥadīth from Umm Salamah, narrated by Layth from ʿAlqamah ibn Murthad from al-Maʿrūr ibn Suwayd from Umm Salamah, the wife of the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), who said: I heard the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam): and he mentioned it, similar to it. It was recorded by Aḥmad (6/304). Layth, who is Ibn Abī Sulaym, is weak but can be used as supporting evidence. And Allāh knows best.

- "When you commit a bad deed, follow it with a good deed to erase it." It was recorded by Aḥmad (5/169): Abū Muʿāwiyah narrated to us, al-Aʿmash narrated to us from Shumayr ibn ʿAṭiyyah from his teachers from Abū Dharr who said: "I said: O Messenger of Allāh, advise me. He said" and he mentioned it. And he added: "I said: O Messenger of Allāh, is 'There is no deity but Allāh' among the good deeds? He said: It is the best of the good deeds." And with this isnād, it was recorded in "al-Zuhd" (p. 27). I say: This isnād is good, its men are trustworthy except for the teachers of Shumayr, for they are not named, but their collective number compensates for the weakness, as al-Sakhāwī said in a different ḥadīth. Abū Nuʿaym corroborated it: al-Aʿmash narrated it to us, except that he said: "from a teacher of the Taym." It was recorded by Abū Nuʿaym in "al-Ḥilyah" (4/217) through two chains from him. And he said: "Abū Nuʿaym narrated it from al-Aʿmash, and Yūnus ibn Bukayr authenticated it from him." Then he narrated it from the chain of ʿUqbah ibn Mukram, Yūnus ibn Bukayr narrated to us from al-Aʿmash from Ibrāhīm al-Taymī from his father from Abū Dharr with it, similar to it. And this isnād is good, all its men are trustworthy, the men of Muslim. And the father of Ibrāhīm is named Yazīd ibn Sharīk al-Taymī.
