It was recorded by Muslim (8/37), al-Bukhārī in "al-Adab al-Mufrad" (113), al-Tirmidhī (3/93), al-Dārimī (2/108), Ibn Mājah (2/324), Ibn al-Mubārak in "al-Zuhd" (606), and Aḥmad (5/149-156-161-171). Al-Tirmidhī said: It is a ḥasan ṣaḥīḥ ḥadīth. The ḥadīth was mentioned by al-Haythamī in "al-Majmaʿ" (5/19) from the narration of Aḥmad with the wording of the translation, and from the narration of al-Bazzār with the wording: If you cook a pot, increase its water or broth, and take care of your neighbors. He said: Among the men of al-Bazzār is ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Mugharrāʾ, whom Abū Zurʿah and a group considered trustworthy, and there is some criticism that does not harm, and the rest of the men are those of the authentic [collections]. Then he mentioned it elsewhere in it (8/165) with the wording: If one of you cooks a pot, let him increase its broth, then let him give some to his neighbor, and he said: It was narrated by al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Awsaṭ" and in it is ʿUbayd Allāh ibn Saʿīd, the guide of al-Aʿmash, whom Ibn Ḥibbān considered trustworthy, while others weakened him, and the rest of the men are trustworthy. I said: It was also recorded by Tamām in "al-Fawāʾid" (10/186/2) through the route of ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Mugharrāʾ al-Azdī from al-Aʿmash from Abū Sufyān from Jābir with it. I said: This is a valuable benefit, where Ibn Mugharrāʾ clarified the intermediary between al-Aʿmash and Jābir as Abū Sufyān, whose name is Ṭalḥah ibn Nāfiʿ, and he is truthful from the men of the two Shaykhs, but Ibn Mugharrāʾ, according to al-Ḥāfiẓ, was criticized in his narration from al-Aʿmash. In summary, the ḥadīth through its routes from Jābir, and the supporting evidence I mentioned from the ḥadīth of Abū Dharr is authentic without doubt. And Allāh knows best.
