(1) Reported by Abū Dāwūd (2/166-167, al-Ḥalabiyyah), Ibn Ḥibbān (715), and al-Ḥākim (1/344) through the route of Ibn Wahb, who narrated to us from Ḥayy ibn ʿAbd Allāh from Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Ḥubulī from ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAmr, who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: and he mentioned it. Al-Ḥākim said: "Authentic according to the conditions of Muslim." Al-Dhahabī agreed with him. I say: It is not as they said, for Ḥayy was not included by Muslim in anything, and moreover, there is criticism regarding his memory, as indicated by al-Ḥāfiẓ who said in his biography: "Truthful but makes mistakes." Thus, it is appropriate to consider his ḥadīth as ḥasan, but not ṣaḥīḥ. Then I saw that al-Dhahabī himself included him in "al-Ḍuʿafāʾ," saying: "His ḥadīth is ḥasan, Aḥmad said: 'His ḥadīth is munkar.'" Moreover, in a narration by Abū Dāwūd: "funeral" instead of "prayer." In my view, this is an anomalous narration, as Ibn Lahīʿah also narrated from Ḥayy ibn ʿAbd Allāh with the first narration: Reported by Aḥmad (2/172), and Ibn Ḥibbān also narrated it (715) through another route from Ibn Wahb with it, except that he made the action of the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) with the wording: "When a man came to visit him, he said:" and he mentioned it. (subdued) It is said: I inflicted harm on the enemy and inflicted severe harm, so I am a subduer, if you inflict many wounds and killings on them, they become weakened by that. The end.
