"When you hear the call, respond to the caller of Allāh." It was narrated by al-Dāraqutnī (197) and Abū Nuʿaym in "Akhbār Aṣbahān" (2/122) from Muḥammad ibn Sulaymān from Abū Dāwūd, who said: My father narrated to me from ʿAbd al-Karīm al-Jazarī from Ziyād ibn Abī Maryam from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Maʿqal from Kaʿb ibn ʿUjrah: "A blind man came to the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) and said: O Messenger of Allāh, I hear the call, but perhaps I cannot find a guide? He said:" and he mentioned it. I said: This isnād [chain of transmission] has trustworthy men except for Sulaymān ibn Abī Dāwūd, who is al-Ḥarrānī and is weak. However, he did not narrate it alone, for it was also narrated by al-Bayhaqī in "al-Sunan" (3/57-58) through the route of Bishr ibn Ḥātim al-Raqī, who said: ʿUbayd Allāh ibn ʿAmr narrated to us from Zayd ibn Abī Anīsah from Abū Isḥāq from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Maʿqal with it. I said: Its narrators are trustworthy except for Bishr ibn Ḥātim al-Raqī, whom Ibn Abī Ḥātim mentioned (1/1/355) with his narration from ʿUbayd Allāh, and he did not add more! Al-Bayhaqī said after it: "Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥīm contradicted him, narrating it from Zayd ibn Abī Anīsah from ʿAdī ibn Thābit from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Maʿqal." I said: Al-Ṭabarānī connected it in "al-Awsaṭ" (1/22/2) through the route of al-Shādhakūnī, who said: Muḥammad ibn Salamah al-Ḥarrānī narrated to us, who said: Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥīm Khālid ibn Yazīd narrated to us from Zayd ibn Abī Anīsah with it. Al-Ṭabarānī said: "No one narrated it from ʿAdī except Zayd." I said: He is trustworthy, but in the route to him is al-Shādhakūnī, whose name is Sulaymān ibn Dāwūd, and he is a memorizer accused of fabricating, but it appears from the aforementioned statement of al-Ṭabarānī that he did not narrate it alone. This is supported by the fact that when al-Ḥāfiẓ al-Haythamī mentioned it in "al-Majmaʿ" (2/42-43), he said: "It was narrated by al-Ṭabarānī in 'al-Awsaṭ' and 'al-Kabīr' and in it is Yazīd ibn Sinān."
