I said: This isnād [chain of transmission] consists of narrators who are all trustworthy except for Ḥibbān ibn ʿAlī, who is weak despite his understanding and virtue, and perhaps he erred in his isnād. Otherwise, the text of the ḥadīth is authentic and has supporting evidence: The first: from Umm al-Dardāʾ who said: My master (meaning her husband Abū al-Dardāʾ) told me that he heard the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) say: "When a man supplicates for his brother in his absence, the angels say 'Āmīn, and for you the same.'" It was recorded by Muslim (8/86) and Abū Dāwūd (1534), and the wording is his, from the path of Mūsá ibn Thawrān who told me Ṭalḥah ibn ʿUbayd Allāh ibn Kurayz, who told me Umm al-Dardāʾ. It was also recorded by Aḥmad (6/452) from another path through Ṭalḥah with it, but he did not mention Abū al-Dardāʾ in his isnād, making it from the musnad of Umm al-Dardāʾ! Then it was recorded by Muslim and Aḥmad (5/195 and 6/452), as well as Ibn Mājah (2895) and Abū al-Shaykh in "Aḥādīth Abī al-Zubayr ʿan Ghayr Jābir" (17/1) from the path of Ṣafwān ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Ṣafwān—who was married to Umm al-Dardāʾ—who said: "I arrived in Syria and went to the house of Abū al-Dardāʾ, but I did not find him and I found Umm al-Dardāʾ. She said: 'Do you intend to perform ḥajj this year?' I said yes. She said: 'Then supplicate to Allāh for us with good, for the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) used to say: The supplication of a Muslim for his brother in his absence is answered. At his head is an angel appointed; whenever he supplicates for his brother with good, the appointed angel says: Āmīn, and for you the same.'" He said: "I went out to the market and met Abū al-Dardāʾ, and he told me the same, narrating it from the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam)." (Note) Al-Manāwī did not come across the isnād of Ibn ʿAdī, so he did not comment on it, but he said: "Muslim and Abū Dāwūd narrated it from Umm al-Dardāʾ al-Ṣughrá, who is a tābiʿīyah, so it is mursal according to them." Thus he said, and it seems he did not notice her statement in the first narration: "My master told me."
قلت: وهذا إسناد رجاله كلهم ثقات غير حبان بن علي وهو ضعيف مع فقهه وفضله، ولعله أخطأ في إسناده وإلا فمتن الحديث صحيح له شواهد: الأول: عن أم الدرداء قالت: حدثني سيدي (تعني زوجها أبا الدرداء) أنه سمع رسول الله ﷺ يقول: " إذا دعا الرجل لأخيه بظهر الغيب قالت الملائكة آمين، ولك بمثل ". أخرجه مسلم (٨ / ٨٦) وأبو داود (١٥٣٤) واللفظ له من طريق موسى بن ثروان حدثني طلحة بن عبيد الله بن كريز حدثتني أم الدرداء. وأخرجه أحمد (٦ / ٤٥٢) من طريق أخرى عن طلحة به لكنه لم يذكر أبا الدرداء في إسناده، فجعله من مسند أم الدرداء! ثم أخرجه مسلم وأحمد (٥ / ١٩٥ و ٦ / ٤٥٢) وكذا ابن ماجة (٢٨٩٥) وأبو الشيخ في " أحاديث أبي الزبير عن غير جابر " (١٧ / ١) من طريق صفوان بن عبد الله بن صفوان - وكانت تحته أم الدرداء - قال: " قدمت الشام، فأتيت أبا الدرداء في منزله، فلم أجده ووجدت أم الدرداء، فقالت: أتريد الحج العام؟ فقلت نعم، قالت: فادع الله لنا بخير، فإن النبي ﷺ كان يقول: دعوة المرء المسلم لأخيه بظهر الغيب مستجابة، عند رأسه ملك موكل كلما دعا لأخيه بخير، قال الملك الموكل به: آمين ولك بمثل ". قال: فخرجت إلى السوق، فلقيت أبا الدرداء، فقال لي مثل ذلك يرويه عن النبي ﷺ ". (تنبيه) لم يقف المناوي على إسناد ابن عدي فلم يتكلم عليه بشيء ولكنه قال: " ورواه مسلم وأبو داود عن أم الدرداء الصغرى، وهي تابعية، فهو عندهما مرسل ". كذا قال وكأنه لم يتنبه لقولها في الرواية الأولى: " حدثني سيدي ".
