I said: This is a sound isnād, all of its narrators are trustworthy, the narrators of Muslim. Al-Ṭabarānī also narrated it in "al-Awsaṭ" and "al-Kabīr" as in "al-Majmaʿ" (4/276) and said: "The narrators of Aḥmad are the narrators of the authentic [collections]." Al-Ḥāfiẓ remained silent about it in "al-Talkhīṣ." Some of the Companions acted upon this ḥadīth, among them was Muḥammad ibn Maslamah al-Anṣārī. Sahl ibn Abī Ḥathmah said: "I saw Muḥammad ibn Maslamah chasing after Buthaynah bint al-Ḍaḥḥāk with his gaze intensely from atop a wall of hers. I said: Do you do this while you are one of the Companions of the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam)? He said: I heard the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) say: 'If a proposal for a woman is placed in a man's heart, there is no harm in looking at her.'"
