I said: But al-Dāraquṭnī critiqued it by saying: "The correct [narration] is from Thābit from Bakr al-Muzanī." Then he presented from the path of Ibn Makhlad al-Jurjānī: ʿAbd al-Razzāq informed us, Maʿmar informed us from Thābit from Bakr al-Muzanī that al-Mughīrah ibn Shuʿbah said: "I came to the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) similarly." I said: And Ibn Mājah narrated it likewise: Ḥasan ibn Abī al-Rabīʿ informed us, ʿAbd al-Razzāq informed us with it. But the narrators who narrated it from ʿAbd al-Razzāq with his isnād from Thābit from Anas are more, so it is more likely, unless the error is from ʿAbd al-Razzāq or his teacher Maʿmar, and Allāh knows best. (yūʾdam) means the affection continues. I said: It is permissible to look at her even if she does not know or feel it, because the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: "When one of you proposes to a woman, there is no harm in looking at her if he only looks at her for his proposal, even if she does not know."

It was recorded by al-Ṭaḥāwī and Aḥmad (5/424) from Zuhayr ibn Muʿāwiyah who said: ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿĪsá informed us from Mūsá ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Yazīd from Abū Ḥumayd - who had seen the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said, and he mentioned it
