a man with a disheveled appearance came to the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) and said: "Do you have wealth?" He replied: "Yes, of all kinds of wealth." The Prophet said: "Then let it be seen on you, for Allāh loves to see the effect of His blessing on His servant in a good way, and He does not love misery or affectation of poverty." I said: Its isnād is authentic, and al-Haythamī said in "Majmaʿ al-Zawāʾid" (5/132): "It was narrated by al-Ṭabarānī, who provided a biography for Zuhayr, and its men are trustworthy." I said: In his biography, al-Bukhārī mentioned in "al-Tārīkh al-Kabīr" (2/1/390) his saying: "Indeed, Allāh loves to see the effect of His blessing on His servant." This portion of it has many supporting narrations, some of which I mentioned in "Takhrīj al-Ḥalāl wa-al-Ḥarām" (no. 75) - which has been published, all praise is due to Allāh - and in "al-Ṣaḥīḥah" as previously mentioned (1290). As for his saying "and He dislikes the one who asks..." etc., I did not find a reliable supporting narration except what is in "al-Jāmiʿ al-Kabīr" (1/156/2): "Indeed, Allāh dislikes the persistent beggar." al-Daylamī from Abū Hurayrah, al-Daylamī from Ibn ʿAbbās. This is how it appears in the Ẓāhiriyyah manuscript, and it is not without issue, as such repetition is not customary in "Takhrīj," and he attributed it in "al-Jāmiʿ al-Ṣaghīr" to Abū Nuʿaym in "al-Ḥilyah" from Abū Hurayrah, but it is not in the index of "al-Ḥilyah," so perhaps he meant his earlier book "Akhbār Aṣbahān." The ḥadīth of Ibn ʿAbbās was narrated by Abū Bakr al-Shīrāzī in "Sabʿah Majālis min al-Amālī" (p. 12/2) from Abū Muḥammad Mūsá ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Muqri al-Ṣanʿānī from Ibn Jurayj from ʿAṭāʾ from Ibn ʿAbbās as marfūʿ. However, this Mūsá, al-Dhahabī said: "He is not trustworthy." Then I found a reasonably acceptable supporting narration with the wording: "Indeed, Allāh loves the gentle, wealthy, self-sufficient person, and He dislikes the obscene, vulgar, persistent beggar."
