al-Jūnī is ʿAbd al-Malik ibn Ḥabīb al-Azdī. The ḥāfiẓ deemed it ḥasan (1/200) but was brief, as if he intended the path of Muʾammal that follows. Then Aḥmad narrated it (4/402) [saying]: Muʾammal ibn Ismāʿīl narrated to us, Ḥammād ibn Salamah narrated to us with it, and he added at the end: "He said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) remained silent." However, Muʾammal ibn Ismāʿīl has weakness due to his memory, but the ḥadīth of Abū Hurayrah supports it with a similar story, extended between him and ʿUmar, and at the end: "ʿUmar said: Do not do it, for I fear that people will rely on it, so leave them to act. The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: So leave them." Muslim narrated it (1/44) through the path of ʿIkrimah ibn ʿAmmār who said: Abū Kathīr narrated to us, Abū Hurayrah narrated to me. And in another story similar to the first, which occurred between Jābir and ʿUmar, at the end: "He said: O Messenger of Allāh! The people have become greedy and corrupt. The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said (meaning to Jābir): Sit down." Ibn Ḥibbān narrated it (no. 7) with an authentic isnād from the ḥadīth of Jābir. And in the chapter, there is [a narration] from Muʿādh ibn Jabal (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu), which follows, and in it: "I said: Should I not give them glad tidings, O Messenger of Allāh? He said: Leave them to act." Al-Bukhārī (1/199 - Fatḥ) and Muslim (1/45) and others have narrated it from the ḥadīth of Anas that the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) with Muʿādh as his riding companion on the mount said: O Muʿādh... "the ḥadīth, and in it: "Should I not inform the people so they may rejoice? He said: Then they would rely [on it]." And Muʿādh informed of it at his death out of fear of sin. Aḥmad also narrated it (5/228, 229, 230, 232, 236) from various paths from Muʿādh, who said in one of them: "Shall I inform you of something I heard from the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam)? Nothing prevented me from narrating it to you except that you would rely [on it]. I heard him say:
