to his left three times, and let him ask Allāh for its good and seek refuge from its evil." It was narrated by Ibn Mājah (2/450) from al-ʿUmrī, from Saʿīd al-Maqburī, from Abū Hurayrah, who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said it, and he mentioned it. I said: This isnād is weak; its men are trustworthy according to the standards of the two Shaykhs, except for this al-ʿUmrī—his name is ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUmar—and he has poor memory. However, it has supporting evidence from the ḥadīth of Jābir, raised, with the wording: "... let him spit to his left three times, seek refuge in Allāh three times, and turn away from the side he was on." The rest is similar. It was narrated by Muslim (6/52), Abū Dāwūd (2/601 - Ḥalabiyyah), Ibn Mājah also, al-Ḥākim (4/392), and Aḥmad (3/350) through the route of al-Layth ibn Saʿd from Abū al-Zubayr from Jābir, and al-Ḥākim said, "Authentic according to the conditions of Muslim, but they did not narrate it." He erred in his correction of Muslim!
- "Indeed, the man is not as they mentioned, but you are Allāh's witnesses on earth, and he has been forgiven for what they do not know." It was narrated by Ibn Mandah with a weak isnād from the narration of Khālid ibn al-ʿAlāʾ from Mujāhid from Yazīd ibn Shajarah who said: "The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) went out for a funeral, and the people spoke well of him and praised him. Then Jibrīl came and said," and he mentioned it. And he said: "It is strange, and in its isnād are two weak narrators." This is mentioned in the biography of Yazīd ibn Shajarah in "al-Iṣābah," and he said: "There is a difference of opinion regarding his companionship." I said: And I did not find anyone who mentioned Khālid ibn al-ʿAlāʾ
