I said: Mūsá ibn ʿUqbah is earlier than both of them, for he died in the year forty-one, while Ibn Jurayj died in the year fifty or after, and Ibn Abī Dhiʾb died in the year fifty-eight, so the isnād is good, if Allāh wills. The ḥadīth is authentic because it has a corroborating narration from the ḥadīth of Laqīṭ ibn Ṣabrah, elevated with the wording: "When you perform ablution, interlace the fingers." It was authenticated by Ibn Ḥibbān, al-Ḥākim, and others, and I have included it in "Ṣaḥīḥ Abī Dāwūd" (130).

- "When Ramaḍān comes, the gates of Paradise are opened, the gates of Hell are closed, and the devils are chained." It was narrated by Muslim (3/121), al-Nasāʾī (1/298 and 299), and Aḥmad (2/257 and 378) through the route of Abū Suhayl from his father from Abū Hurayrah (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu) that the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: and he mentioned it, except that al-Nasāʾī said: "enters" instead of "comes." But in another narration by him through the route of Ibn Abī Anas, the client of the Taymiyyīn, that his father narrated to him that he heard Abū Hurayrah say: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: and he mentioned it with the wording: "When Ramaḍān comes, the gates of mercy are opened, the gates of Hell are closed, and the devils are chained." And from this route, it was narrated by al-Bukhārī (1/474 and 2/321) and Aḥmad (2/281 and 401) and both he and al-Bukhārī said: "enters" instead of "comes." Muslim said "When it is..." and al-Bukhārī said: "the gates of the sky" instead of "the gates of Paradise." And likewise, it was narrated by al-Dārimī (2/26) but he said: "When it comes... and the devils are chained."

- "When Ramaḍān comes, fast for thirty days unless you see the crescent before that." It was narrated by al-Ṭaḥāwī in "Mushkil al-Āthār" (1/210) and Aḥmad (4/377)
