the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam): have you looked at her? He said: No. He said: Then look at her... " the ḥadīth. The reasoning for this matter is provided in an authentic ḥadīth, which is: "Look at her, for it is more likely to create affection between you."

Aḥmad and al-Bayhaqī added: "So I went to her, and her parents were present while she was in her seclusion. I said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) commanded me to look at her. They remained silent. The young woman lifted the side of the curtain and said: I adjure you, if the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) commanded you to look, then look; and if the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) did not command you to look, then do not look. He said: So I looked at her, then I married her, and no woman has ever been as dear to me as she was. Indeed, I have married seventy or more than seventy women." Al-Tirmidhī said: "It is a good ḥadīth." I said: All its narrators are trustworthy, except that Yaḥyá ibn Maʿīn said: "Bakr did not hear from al-Mughīrah."
