It was recorded by Ibn Ḥibbān (no. 65), narrated to us by Abū Yaʿlá, who reported from Muḥammad ibn Abī Bakr al-Muqaddamī, who reported from Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Zubayrī, who reported from Sufyān, from ʿAṭāʾ ibn al-Sāʾib, from Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Sulamī, from Abū Mūsá al-Ashʿarī, from the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), who said: and he mentioned it. I said: This isnād is authentic, all its men are trustworthy, the men of al-Bukhārī, and although ʿAṭāʾ ibn al-Sāʾib became confused, Sufyān—who is al-Thawrī—narrated from him before the confusion.

"The woman belongs to her last husband." It was narrated by Abū ʿAlī al-Ḥarrānī al-Qushayrī in "Tārīkh al-Raqqah" (3/39/2), who reported from al-ʿAbbās ibn Ṣāliḥ ibn Musāfir al-Ḥarrānī, who reported from Abū ʿAbd Allāh al-Sukkarī, Ismāʿīl ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Khālid, who reported from Abū al-Malīḥ, from Maymūn ibn Mihrān, who said: Muʿāwiyah (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu) proposed to Umm al-Dardāʾ, but she refused to marry him and said: I heard Abū al-Dardāʾ say: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: "The woman is with her last husband," or he said: "to her last husband," or as she said—and I do not wish for a substitute for Abū al-Dardāʾ. I said: This isnād's men are trustworthy and well-known, except for this al-ʿAbbās ibn Ṣāliḥ, for whom I did not find a biography now, so refer to "al-Jarḥ wa-al-Taʿdīl" (1). It was also narrated by Abū al-Shaykh in "al-Tārīkh" (p. 270), who reported from Aḥmad ibn Isḥāq al-Jawharī, who reported from Ismāʿīl ibn Zarārah, who said: Abū al-Malīḥ al-Raqī narrated it, limiting it to the elevated part only. This isnād is authentic. Its men are trustworthy and well-known, except for al-Jawharī. Abū al-Shaykh said: "Trustworthy, good in ḥadīth, among the good of his ḥadīth..." Then he listed for him ḥadīths, this being one of them. It was also narrated by al-Baghawī in "Ḥadīth ʿĪsá ibn Sālim" (103/1) from Abū Bakr ibn Abī Maryam, who said: ʿAṭiyyah ibn Qays told me that Muʿāwiyah ibn Abī Sufyān proposed to Umm al-Dardāʾ... the ḥadīth, except that he did not elevate the elevated part but stopped it at Abū al-Dardāʾ, and it was narrated elevated from him by al-Ṭabarānī with the wording: "Any woman whose husband dies and she marries after him, she belongs to her last husband."
