"If one of you spits in the mosque, let him conceal it, so it does not touch the skin or clothing of a believer and harm him." Narrated by Aḥmad (1/179), Ibn Abī Shaybah (2/80/2), Ibn Khuzaymah in his "Ṣaḥīḥ" (1/141/2), Abū Yaʿlá (p. 230), and al-Ḍiyāʾ in "al-Mukhtārah" (1/331) from Muḥammad ibn Isḥāq from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muḥammad from ʿĀmir ibn Saʿd ibn Abī Waqqāṣ from his father Saʿd, attributed to the Prophet. I said: This isnād is good, its men are "trustworthy," and we only fear Ibn Isḥāq's tadlīs, but he explicitly stated hearing from Aḥmad, Abū Yaʿlá, and al-Ḍiyāʾ in one of his narrations.

"When one of you wishes, let him wish for much, for he is asking his Lord ﷿." Recorded by ʿAbd ibn Ḥumayd in "al-Muntaqā min al-Musnad" (fol. 193/1 - microfilm of the library), narrated to us by ʿUbayd Allāh ibn Mūsá from Sufyān from Hishām ibn ʿUrwah from his father from ʿĀʾishah who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said it, and she mentioned it. I said: This isnād is authentic according to the criteria of al-Bukhārī and Muslim. The ḥadīth was attributed by al-Suyūṭī to al-Ṭabarānī's "al-Awsaṭ," and al-Munāwī said: "He symbolized it as good, which is a shortcoming or deficiency, and it should be symbolized as authentic, for al-Ḥāfiẓ and al-Haythamī and others said: Its men are the men of the authentic collections." I said: This statement does not necessarily imply the authenticity of the isnād due to the possibility of a defect preventing authenticity, such as disconnection or tadlīs, as is not hidden from those knowledgeable in this noble science. As for the isnād of Ibn Ḥumayd, we know of no defect in it, and ʿUbayd Allāh ibn Mūsá was followed up by Sufyān with something similar, as will come (1325).
