and Ibn al-Jārūd (190) and Aḥmad (2/238) from the route of Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah from al-Zuhrī from Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyib from Abū Hurayrah that the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: and he mentioned it. And it was corroborated by Baqiyyah from al-Zubaydī who said: al-Zuhrī informed me of it. It was recorded by al-Nasāʾī. And it is in "the two Ṣaḥīḥs" in a similar manner. Refer to my commentary on it in my book "Ṣaḥīḥ al-Targhīb wa-al-Tarhīb" (1/205).
"The righteousness of ḥajj is feeding food and speaking kindly." It was narrated by Ibn ʿAdī (20/2) and Abū al-ʿAbbās al-Aṣamm in "al-Fawāʾid al-Muntaqāh" (3/1) and from him by al-Ḥākim (1/483). Ayyūb (meaning Abū Suwayd al-Ḥimyarī) narrated to us, al-Awzāʿī narrated from Muḥammad ibn al-Munkadir from Jābir in a marfūʿ manner, and al-Ḥākim said: "Its isnād is authentic, and they did not include it because they did not rely on Ayyūb ibn Suwayd, but it is a ḥadīth with many supporting narrations." Al-Dhahabī agreed with him. And Ayyūb ibn Suwayd was deemed weak by Abū Ḥātim and others, and al-Ḥāfiẓ said: "He is truthful but makes mistakes." And it was corroborated by Muḥammad ibn Thābit who narrated from Muḥammad ibn al-Munkadir in a similar manner. It was recorded by Aḥmad (3/325 and 334). And it was corroborated by Ṭalḥah ibn ʿAmr from Muḥammad ibn al-Munkadir in a similar manner. It was recorded by al-Ṭayālisī (1817) and from him by al-Kharāʾiṭī in "al-Makārim" (25). Thus, the ḥadīth is ḥasan due to the combination of the two routes. And I found another route for it from Jābir, narrated by Bishr ibn al-Walīd, who narrated from Muḥammad ibn Muslim al-Ṭāʾifī from ʿAmr ibn Dīnār from him. It was recorded by al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Awsaṭ" (1/113/2) and he said: "No one narrated it from ʿAmr except Muḥammad ibn Muslim, and no one from him except Bishr." I said: Its narrators are trustworthy, except that Bishr ibn al-Walīd became old and senile, and Muḥammad ibn Muslim al-Ṭāʾifī is truthful but makes mistakes. Al-Mundhirī said in "al-Targhīb" (2/107) and was followed by al-Haythamī in "al-Majmaʿ" (3/207): "It was narrated by al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Awsaṭ" and its isnād is ḥasan"!
