"when the servant uses the siwāk and then stands to pray, the angel stands behind him, listens to his recitation, and draws near to him or something similar until he places his mouth on his [the servant's] mouth. Nothing comes out from his mouth of the Quran except that it enters into the angel's belly. So purify your mouths for the Quran." It was recorded by al-Bazzār in "his Musnad" (p. 60) and he said: "We do not know it from ʿAlī with a better isnād than this." I say: Its isnād is good; its men are the men of al-Bukhārī, and there is some discussion about al-Fuḍayl, but it does not harm. Al-Mundhirī said in "al-Targhīb" (1/102): "It was narrated by al-Bazzār with a good isnād that is not objectionable, and Ibn Mājah narrated part of it as mawqūf, and perhaps that is more likely." I say: No, for in the isnād of Ibn Mājah there is a break and a rejected narrator, while others have narrated it from the mentioned aspect as marfūʿ, and the ḥadīth has a supporting narration from Jābir as marfūʿ with a similar meaning. It was recorded by Tamām and al-Bayhaqī in "al-Shuʿab" and al-Ḍiyāʾ in "al-Mukhtārah" as in "al-Jāmiʿ al-Ṣaghīr," and its narrators are trustworthy as reported by al-Munāwī from Ibn Daqīq al-ʿĪd. Another supporting narration was recorded by Ibn Naṣr in "al-Ṣalāh" from Ibn Shihāb as mursal as in "al-Jāmiʿ" as well.
- "This is the trustworthy one of this ummah, meaning Abū ʿUbaydah ibn al-Jarrāḥ." It was recorded by Muslim (7/129) and Ibn Saʿd in "al-Ṭabaqāt" (3/2/299) through various chains from Ḥammād ibn Salamah from Thābit al-Bunānī from Anas ibn Mālik: "When the people of Yemen came to the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), they asked him to send with them a man to teach them the sunnah and Islam. He took the hand of Abū ʿUbaydah ibn al-Jarrāḥ and said..." and mentioned it. It will appear under number (196) with additional details in the takhrīj along with a beneficial commentary.
