- "When Allāh intends good for someone, He grants him understanding of the religion. And indeed, this wealth is sweet and green; so whoever takes it rightfully, it will be blessed for him. Beware of excessive praise, for it is slaughter." Recorded by al-Ṭaḥāwī in "al-Mushkil" (2/279) and Aḥmad (4/92, 93, 98, and 99) from Saʿd ibn Ibrāhīm from Maʿbad al-Juhanī who said: Muʿāwiyah rarely narrated anything from the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), and he used to say these words rarely leaving them out or narrating them in gatherings from the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam). Then he mentioned it. This is a good chain of transmission; all its narrators are trustworthy, the narrators of the six [books], except Maʿbad al-Juhanī. Abū Ḥātim said: "He was the first to speak about predestination and was truthful in ḥadīth." The ḥadīth was similarly mentioned by al-Ḥāfiẓ in "al-Taqrīb". Ibn Mājah narrated the last part of it: "Beware of excessive praise." It will appear [again] (1284).

- "While a man was in an open field, he heard thunder in a cloud, and he heard a voice in it: 'Water the garden of so-and-so' — mentioning his name. So that cloud went to a rocky area and poured out its water, then it came to the ends of a channel and ended at his channel, absorbing the water. The man followed the cloud until he reached a man standing in his garden watering it. He said: 'O servant of Allāh, what is your name?' He replied: 'Why do you ask?' He said: 'I heard in this cloud, its water: "Water the garden of so-and-so by your name." What do you do with it when you harvest it?' He replied: 'As you have said, I divide it into three parts: I keep a third for myself and my family, return a third to it, and give a third to the poor, the needy, and the wayfarer (1).'"
