and it has a supporting narration from the ḥadīth of Ibn ʿUmar who said: I heard the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) say: "Indeed, the stream that Allāh mentioned: *'Your Lord has provided beneath you a stream'* is a river that Allāh brought forth for you to drink from." It was recorded by al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Kabīr" (3/167/1) from Yaḥyá ibn ʿAbd Allāh: Ayūb ibn Nuhayk informed us, saying: I heard ʿIkrimah, the freed slave of Ibn ʿAbbās, say: I heard Ibn ʿUmar... And this isnād is weak due to the weakness of Yaḥyá ibn ʿAbd Allāh, who is al-Bābiltī. Worse than him is his teacher Ayūb ibn Nuhayk, and perhaps for this reason, Ibn Kathīr limited himself to it in weakening this ḥadīth, and what came before it suffices. And Allāh knows best.
"This has occupied me from you today, a glance at it, and a glance at you. Then he threw it away, meaning the ring." It was recorded by al-Nasāʾī (2/295) and Ibn Ḥibbān in his "Ṣaḥīḥ" (no. 1468 - al-Mawārid) and Aḥmad (1/322) through the route of ʿUthmān ibn ʿUmar: Mālik ibn Mughawwal informed us from Sulaymān al-Shaybānī from Saʿīd ibn Jubayr from Ibn ʿAbbās "that the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) made a ring and wore it, then said: (and he mentioned it)." I say: And this isnād is authentic according to the criteria of al-Bukhārī and Muslim. It has a supporting narration from Ṭāwūs, mursal, similar to it, and it mentions that the ring was made of gold. It was recorded by Ibn Saʿd in "al-Ṭabaqāt" (1/2/161) with an authentic isnād from him, except that it is mursal. However, it is supported by the ḥadīth of Ibn ʿUmar (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu) that the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) made a ring of gold and placed its stone facing his palm and engraved on it (Muḥammad, Messenger of Allāh). So the people made similar rings, and when he saw that they had made them, he threw it away and said: "I will never wear it again." Then he made a ring of silver, and the people made silver rings. It was recorded by al-Bukhārī and Muslim in "al-Libās."
