it was recorded by al-Tirmidhī (1/248), al-Bayhaqī (5/357-358), and Aḥmad (3/340) through the chain of Zayd ibn ʿAṭāʾ ibn al-Sāʾib from Muḥammad ibn al-Munkadir from Jābir ibn ʿAbd Allāh who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said it. al-Tirmidhī said: "A sound, good, and rare ḥadīth from this perspective." I said: Its isnād is good; its men are trustworthy and well-known, except for this Zayd, about whom Abū Ḥātim said: He is not well-known. Ibn Ḥibbān mentioned him among the trustworthy, and a group narrated from him. (See al-Istidrāk 178/7).

- "Give her to her maternal aunt, for the maternal aunt is like a mother." It was recorded by Abū Dāwūd (1/530 - al-Ḥalabiyyah) and al-Ḥākim (3/120), and the wording is his, and Aḥmad (1/88 and 115) through the chains from Isrāʾīl from Isḥāq from Hubayrah ibn Yārīm and Hāniʾ ibn Hāniʾ from ʿAlī who said: "When we left Mecca, the daughter of Ḥamzah followed us and called: 'O uncle, O uncle!' So I took her by the hand and handed her to Fāṭimah and said: 'Here is your cousin's daughter.' When we arrived in Medina, we disputed over her, Zayd, Jaʿfar, and I. I said: 'I took her, and she is my cousin's daughter.' Zayd said: 'She is my brother's daughter.' Jaʿfar said: 'She is my cousin's daughter, and her maternal aunt is with me.' The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said to Jaʿfar: 'You resemble me in appearance and character,' and he said to Zayd: 'You are our brother and our ally,' and he said to me: 'You are from me, and I am from you. Give her...' I said: 'Will you not marry her, O Messenger of Allāh?' He said: 'She is my brother's daughter through nursing.'" al-Ḥākim said: "Its isnād is sound, and they did not record it with these words, but they agreed on the ḥadīth of Abū Isḥāq from al-Barāʾ in a shortened form." I said: Abū Isḥāq is al-Sabīʿī, and he had become confused, but there is another chain for it with Abū Dāwūd and al-Ṭaḥāwī in "al-Mushkil" (4/174) and al-Ḥākim (3/211) from Yazīd ibn al-Hād from Muḥammad ibn Nāfiʿ ibn ʿAjīr from his father Nāfiʿ from ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib with a similar narration.
