"Go out to him, for he does not know how to ask for permission. Tell him to say: Peace be upon you, may I enter?" Reported by Aḥmad (5/368 and 369) and Abū Dāwūd (2/339) from Shuʿbah, from Manṣūr, from Ribʿī ibn Ḥirāsh, from a man from Banī ʿĀmir. "He sought permission to enter upon the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) and said: May I enter? So the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said to his servant..." and he mentioned it. I say: This isnād is authentic, its narrators are trustworthy, the narrators of al-Bukhārī and Muslim, except for the ʿĀmirī man who was not named, but this does not harm [the report] because he is a Companion, and all the Companions are just. Abū al-Aḥwaṣ followed him from Manṣūr with it. Reported by Abū Dāwūd. Jarīr also followed him from him. Reported by al-Bukhārī in "al-Adab al-Mufrad" (1084).

"Gabriel just left me and informed me that al-Ḥusayn will be killed by the bank of the Euphrates." Reported by Aḥmad (1/85) from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Nujay from his father, who traveled with ʿAlī and was his water carrier. When they reached (Nīnawā) on their way to Ṣiffīn, ʿAlī called out: Be patient, Abū ʿAbd Allāh, be patient, Abū ʿAbd Allāh by the bank of the Euphrates. I asked: What is it? He said: "I entered upon the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) one day and his eyes were overflowing. I asked: O Prophet of Allāh, has someone angered you? What is the matter with your eyes overflowing? He said: Rather, Gabriel just left... He said: Would you like to smell some of its soil? I said: Yes, so he extended his hand and took a handful of soil and gave it to me, and I could not control my eyes from overflowing." I say: This isnād is weak, Nujay, the father of ʿAbd Allāh, is unknown as al-Dhahabī said, and no one authenticated him except Ibn Ḥibbān, and his son is more famous than him. Whoever authenticated this isnād has erred
