Similarly, Abū Muḥammad al-Mukhalladī narrated it in "al-Fawāʾid" (285/1-2). And he has the addition. I said: This is a sound isnād, all its narrators are trustworthy, the men of Muslim, except for Wāʾil ibn Dāwūd, and he is trustworthy as the ḥāfiẓ said. Qays also followed him from Bakr ibn Wāʾil with it. It was produced by Abū Yaʿlá (1403), al-Bazzār (114 - his additions), and al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Awsaṭ" (1/1113) and he said: "No one narrated it from al-Zuhrī except Bakr." I said: And he is trustworthy as you know, but Qays, who is Ibn al-Rabīʿ, is weak due to his memory, and al-Manāwī criticized him for it, and the following of Wāʾil ibn Dāwūd was hidden from him.
- "Keep away from me, O ʿUmar! I was given a choice and I chose, and it was said to me: *'Whether you ask forgiveness for them or do not ask forgiveness for them, even if you ask forgiveness for them seventy times, Allāh will not forgive them'* (Sūrah al-Tawbah, verse 80). If I knew that if I increased beyond seventy, he would be forgiven, I would have done so." It was produced by al-Tirmidhī (2/185) and Aḥmad (1/16) from Muḥammad ibn Isḥāq who narrated to me from al-Zuhrī, from ʿUbayd Allāh ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUtbah, from Ibn ʿAbbās who said: I heard ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb say: "When ʿAbd Allāh ibn Ubayy died, the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) was called to pray over him, so he stood up to do so. When he stood intending to pray, I moved until I stood in front of him and said: O Messenger of Allāh, are you going to pray over the enemy of Allāh, ʿAbd Allāh ibn Ubayy, who said on such and such a day such and such? Counting his days, he said: And the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) was smiling until I spoke excessively, then he mentioned it, then he prayed over him and walked with him and stood at his grave until he finished. He said: I was amazed at myself and my boldness towards the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), and Allāh and His Messenger know best. By Allāh, it was only a short time until these two verses were revealed: *'And do not pray over any of them who has died ever, nor stand at his grave. Indeed, they disbelieved in Allāh and His Messenger and died while they were defiantly disobedient'* (Sūrah al-Tawbah, verse 84). He said: So the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) did not pray over any hypocrite after him nor stand at his grave until Allāh took him." And al-Tirmidhī said:
