I said: Layth is weak due to his confusion, and it was narrated through his route by al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr" from the ḥadīth of Abū Umāmah who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said. Al-Haythamī said in "al-Majmaʿ" (7/203): "And in it is Layth ibn Abī Sulaym, and he is lenient, and the rest of its narrators are trustworthy." However, the ḥadīth has many supporting narrations that elevate it to the level of authenticity in my critique, and they are from the ḥadīth of Abū Miḥjan, Abū al-Dardāʾ, and Anas ibn Mālik. 1 - As for the ḥadīth of Abū Miḥjan, it is in the wording: "I fear for my nation after me three things: the injustice of leaders, belief in the stars, and denial of destiny." It was narrated by Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr in "Jāmiʿ Bayān al-ʿIlm" (2/39) and Ibn ʿAsākir (16/308/1) [who] informed us Ḥusayn ibn Abī Zayd al-Dabbāgh informed us ʿAlī ibn Yazīd al-Ṣadāʾī informed us Abū Saʿd al-Baqqāl from Abū Miḥjan who said: I bear witness upon the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) that he said: and he mentioned it. And this chain is weak; Abū Saʿd al-Baqqāl, his name is Saʿīd ibn al-Marzabān, and he is weak and a mudallis, and he narrated it with ʿanʿanah. And ʿAlī ibn Yazīd al-Ṣadāʾī is lenient as mentioned in "al-Taqrīb." As for al-Dabbāgh, al-Khaṭīb translated him (8/110-111) and declared him trustworthy. 2 - As for the ḥadīth of Abū al-Dardāʾ, it is in the wording: "I fear for my nation three things: the slip of a scholar, the argument of a hypocrite with the Qurʾān, and the denial of destiny." It was narrated by al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Kabīr" from Abū al-Dardāʾ as marfūʿ. And al-Haythamī said (7/203): "And in it is Muʿāwiyah ibn Yaḥyá al-Ṣadafī, and he is weak."
