the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) set out before Badr, and when he reached Ḥarrah al-Wabarah, a man who was known for his courage and bravery caught up with him. The Companions of the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) were pleased when they saw him. When he reached him, he said to the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam): I have come to follow you and to gain with you. The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said to him: Do you believe in Allāh and His Messenger? He said: No. He said: Then go back, for I will not seek help from a polytheist. She said: Then he continued until we were at the tree, and the man caught up with him. He said to him as he had said the first time, and the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said to him as he had said the first time: Then go back, for I will not seek help from a polytheist. He said: Then he returned, and he caught up with him at al-Baydāʾ. He said to him as he had said the first time: Do you believe in Allāh and His Messenger? He said: Yes. So the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said to him: Then proceed. It was recorded by Muslim (5/201), al-Ṭaḥāwī (3/236-237), and Aḥmad (6/68 and 149) through the route of Mālik from al-Fuḍayl ibn Abī ʿAbd Allāh from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Niyār al-Aslamī from ʿUrwah ibn al-Zubayr from her with it. In a narration by Aḥmad and Ibn Ḥibbān (1621), he said: "For we do not seek help from a polytheist." And thus, a summarized version was recorded by Abū Dāwūd (2/69 - al-Ḥalabiyyah), al-Dārimī (2/233), and Ibn Mājah (2/193) from Mālik with it.

"Indeed, the true goodness is the goodness of the Hereafter." It was recorded by Ibn Saʿd in "al-Ṭabaqāt" (2/70) from Thābit from Anas ibn Mālik: "The Companions of the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) used to say while they were digging the trench: We are those who pledged allegiance to Muḥammad for jihad as long as we live, and the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) would say: O Allāh, indeed the true goodness is the goodness of the Hereafter, so forgive the Anṣār and the Muhājirīn. The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) was brought barley bread with rancid fat on it, and they ate from it. And the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: "And he mentioned it." I said: Its isnād is authentic according to the criteria of Muslim.
