"that Muʿādh ibn Jabal passed away at the age of twenty-eight, and he was ahead of the scholars by a distance." al-Ṭabarānī also narrated it as mentioned in "al-Majmaʿ." Imām Abū ʿUbayd al-Qāsim ibn Sallām said in the book "al-Īmān" (p. 73) after mentioning Muʿādh (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu): The Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) preferred him over many of his Companions in knowledge of the lawful and unlawful, then he said: "he advances the scholars by a distance." Thus, he affirmed the attribution of the ḥadīth to the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), which is the intended meaning.

"When you are present at the death of your loved ones, close their eyes, for the sight follows the soul, and speak good words, for the angels affirm what the family says." This was narrated by Ibn Mājah (1/444), al-Ḥākim (1/352), and Aḥmad (4/125) from Qazaʿah ibn Suwayd from Ḥumayd al-Aʿraj from al-Zuhrī from Maḥmūd ibn Labīd from Shaddād ibn Aws who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: and he mentioned it. al-Ḥākim said: "It has a sound isnād!" and al-Dhahabī agreed! This is among their errors, for this Qazaʿah was mentioned by al-Dhahabī himself in "al-Ḍuʿafāʾ" and he said: "Aḥmad said: his ḥadīth is inconsistent, and al-Nasāʾī said: weak, and Abū Ḥātim said: he is not to be relied upon." al-Ḥāfiẓ said in "al-Taqrīb": "weak," so how can it be sound? Yes, it might be considered ḥasan, as al-Būṣīrī said in "al-Zawāʾid": (91/1): "This isnād is ḥasan, Qazaʿah ibn Suwayd is disputed, and the rest of the men of the isnād are trustworthy." I say: the majority have weakened him, and none but Ibn Maʿīn in one of the narrations considered him reliable
